September 21 is Zero Emissions Day, a chance to spread awareness about the need to immediately cut our greenhouse gas emissions.
According to the Canadian Climate Institute (CCI), Canada’s overall emissions have dropped by 8 per cent since 2005. Economic growth is driving emissions up in the short term, though, and the country’s emissions are on the decline mainly because more and more climate policies like HalifACT are being put into action.
The Halifax Regional Municipality is making strides in the areas where CCI is seeing positive development across the country: moving to clean energy, accelerating the switch to alternative forms of transportation and constructing resilient, net-zero-ready buildings.
